Remember that day when I posted the video called Relay Pranks Must Stop, click here, last year of Jan 4th, 2008? Well, I’m re-posting the video on here, the reason is because it is still going on ever since then via comments and emails.
So what I would like to share is that I received some interesting messages from pranksters or should I say ex-pranksters.
To begin with i thought they were funny, i had never done one but they amused me, I’m not going to look at another prank because i have realised how valuable this service is.
thanks for posting this video.By edwards438
Hey,
I’ve always had a good time using IP relay as a prank and now thanks to you, its ruined for me and I feel guilty. Totally kidding. But I do feel guilty and I’m glad you said something through a media that will actually get out to a large amount of people. I’m not deaf and I used it for prank calls. I’m sending this in a message because after seeing that and realizing how ignorant it was I feel embaressed. I never even thought about how people who actually need it wouldn’t be able to use because of people prank calling. It seems obvious that, that would happen when you think about it but at the time I was just thinking of how “funny” it would be. Anyways. Just letting you know that because of you there will be one less person using it for prank calls and I will pass this video along.

Hello
I watched your video on I.P relay prank calls and I must say it has changed my perspective forever. A few years ago I found myself along with friends abusing this hot line for our own personal humor. Let me assure you that I am completely embarrassed because of it and it will never happen again.
Brad
Hello geo,
I want to say I am very sorry, your video woke me up, believe it or not. I won’t do it anymore, you can bet on that.
Jared
I do realize how important it is for the hearing impaired to be able to use these means of communication. again im very very sorry.

You can see how a video actually changed some people for the better to stop abusing the system. That made me feel good knowing we made the difference. I’m re-posting the video on here.

A great job, Seek Geo. We need to have this republished periodically. In fact, in my opinion, this should be provided as a PSA (Public Service Announcement) on TV. Have you thought about submitting your vlog to be used as a PSA?
Hi Mishka Zena!
Oh.. never thought of it. Thanks for the suggestion. It won’t hurt to give it a try so I definitely will do that. I will keep you posted.
Thanks again!

SG,
I am very surprised the prank who did the played around with IP Relay service many time and they did admitted they did not realized and it already hurt deaf community who need to use IP Relay service. I think
I have hard time to use IP relay. it seem so hard to getting reached. Same time I use it all the time. but now I am using old TTY machine often. I am totally stuck with not able to connect with IP-Relay in computer. I must admitted that I cannot threw old tty machine. I really prefer IP Relay service. it is not working for me.
I am so happy to hear that some people learned.
That truth and also I do see some hearing people used IP Relay for free. Relay is only for deaf and hard of hearing that cant talk via phone. Hearing people should not used IP Relay. I think Relay need set up password to get in or something alike that.
Oh well.. that why I hate relay. I love VP because Hearing people cant get free VP! And cant ASL if they dont know what ASL was.
Good b/vlog!
Yeah I remember it long time. I am glad some people learned their lesson. Thank you for sharing
I love i711 for my text relay needs on the computer because they require registration including password to access their site. I like that. It prevents pranks. If you can’t use IP relay, maybe you can try i711.
nonew3,
No prank caller will use abuse to the business if they emailed me my pager or email. I saw the phone number is unusual and I called that business. they mad .. I knew it was prank caller. Really pretty bad. I recevied a call from pranker call into my pager. I dont know how they got my number. I just found out I left a comment in Deaf Connect it was long time ago I forgot about it.

Isn’t that a great feeling Geo to be able to make a difference, regardless how small or not? I am glad others got to see what they are doing with the Relay stuff.

I am glad you brought it up again. I couldn’t use ip-relay calls very often because some business hang up on me without answering the call. One of business that I might needed to use for specific reason. This business hung up without saying anything. I tried call them many time, but they continue hung up. I was stuck and had to find other business to use for specific service. Some business said they were not interested to handle relay calls because it took too long. I lost temper and told them I have a right to use their service or I will contact ADA for them denying the service. I didn’t realize they probably had dealt with prank callers, so they refuse accept the calls. We, deaf people, need establish an organization to fight against fraud, prank, and abuse the relay system. It sucks that prank, fraud, and abuse relay system is still happening today.
Hey y’all.. thanks for the comments!
Guess what? I just received another comment under relay pranks on youtube by: FLCLeureka7
“I must admit that i have done prank on relay service two times, but since i saw your video, now i understand, i’m going to stop now and thank you for putting it here. 5/5″

Well, I’m glad that some people are getting it. As a relay operator, I really like my job when I’m processing calls for real customers. I loathe the pranks and scams, and the cretins who call from pay phones hoping that I’ll tell them if their friend answered the phone or it went to voicemail.
When I get a pranker, I will start reading *EXACTLY* as typed (whereas for real customers, if they typo/misspell, as long as I have a clue what they meant to write I will voice what was meant), all inflection goes out of my voice for the prankers, and when I hear the typing in the background, (typing in background) gets sent every time. Once, I got lucky enough to hear them read off the screen what I’d just typed, so I typed (person in background reading off screen what relay just typed) and they got so mad they hung up.
I’m hoping things change after the 30th, when the IP customers are supposed to have an assigned 10-digit phone number to use the IP relay for non-emergency calls.
