[..YouTube..] Just like a man. You have to put the HD tv over everything else! lol. I sure hope they come up with a solution. I do not know anything about the high-tech stuff.
What exactly is the outlet look like? Like a normal cable outlet? If it does, then just buy a splitter.. see link for picture.

Joscasta,
LOL.. that’s what I exactly asked the same question.. however unfortunately, it’s not how it works with HD and cable internet. the cable to the outlet was directly from dish on the roof so meaning they had to put down the cable cord for the internet to use the cord from dish.
The splitter do not work for HD and cable internet, it works for some others but not both. HD must have its own outlet.

Just use a splitter. Or switch from cable internet to DSL. DSL uses the phone line instead of the cable outlet :-) No, you don’t get a busy signal if you’re on the DSL. Problem solved. You only really need ONE outlet. Never heard of satellite HD needing to have a cable outlet. That’s odd to me. Why? What’s the diff between regular satellite and HD satellite? Shouldn’t they be the same?
I switched from cable internet to DSL because it was cheaper for me to have DSL instead of cable internet. VP still works with DSL. No problem.
Hi Roselil,
When we had regular satellite, it was set on deck which means the cord from dish direct to our TV through the sliding doors which is no problem.
But with HD satellite, because the dish is too big that it cannot stand still on the deck, it must be either on the roof or set on the ground using cement to be able to hold it.
They said trying to set up on deck is almost impossible since it’s too heavy and big.
As for DSL, unfortunately, only if I could, we can get Qwest but this apartment have phone line with another company which does not provide DSL.
Qwest can’t set up here, apartment don’t allow them. That is the other problem so basically we are stuck, either we have to figure how to get cable internet here or we will just move.
It’s not as easy as you’d think it is.

ahh really sucks.. oh dear.. I have two tv at home one for cable and one for VP ( i used my old tv but still good) Do you have extra tv?? If you have own home condo or house for sure no plm right..I hope it soon solve problem.. have good day.. also Finally without dish satelli you can see beautiful view..
karla64
Hey Karla,
Yep, we have other TV in our bedroom and yes I agree with you that only if we live in our own place like condo or house, it won’t be a problem at all. I miss our house in Seattle, he he.
-SG
[..YouTube..] what a disappointment :) i do still have plms with vp and internet speed so far :) grrr
Problem solved!
http://www.techsavvyed.net/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/computer_model_large.jpg
But in all seriousness, hope you can find a solution. It’s not fun to move! (Packing up all those boxes. Bleh!)
Of course you can always get satellite high speed internet but that is verrrrrrry expensive. (It’s cheaper to get dial-up access from long-distance China!). And requires another satellite dish! Your apartment will look like NASA!
*sigh* for you!
That sucks. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting, but you still can use internet or what?? or you have to unplug then plug it back when you not using tv??
Hey Fair,
Oh this apartment is offering free wifi and/or phone line for residents only but it’s like sooooo SLOW which is actually a slow/dial-up modem.
Can’t complain at least for now but it won’t work for VP or anything that involves video except can be able to upload to youtube but it takes forever, ugh.

SG,
It was comment in #1 was me. I thought I did put my name on it. somewhat it did not show you at all.
Wow, That’s sucker! seem it is very confusion for you to figure out what suppose to be VP should be hooked up with cable. Geez. Life is can be very hassle with people who work and knew clueless about VP systems and TV,together?
It will be avoid to pay out of pocket for cable payment….
I don’t like to be sour grapes, but your problems are not over yet! Big problems with BluRay, same thing, sometimes captions, sometimes not. My 2 teenage grand daughters had it working pretty good while they were here for spring break, but the darned thing is not consistent with different movies.
The company where I bought the BluRay is coming back soon to see how they can help me. This store has never sold a BluRay to a deaf person needing CC before! Why do I have to be the pioneer? Crap! Anyone here who is expert on BluRay and CC??
Hugs, Lantana
Lantana
Hey Deaf Pixie,
What happens is that the satellite is from Directv and cable internet is from Charter so can’t put them together since both is very different company. And we only have one outlet which means have to choose one way or the another which sucks, I know. Only if it’s our own home, no problem, can just add second outlet.
Like Joscasta suggested a splitter but it doesn’t work that way by using two different companies to one outlet.
So hopefully we can make it work.. somehow. If the apartment refuses to work things out then we will be heading out of the door.
Will definitely keep you all posted.

Hey Lantana!
Aw, man.. You are talking about CC as in closed caption for DVD movies using blu-ray player? Or are we talking about SDH on blu-ray discs?
The reason I asked is because we got blu-ray player just last week and we did test out using DVD on a blu-ray player but CC doesn’t work so we decided to keep DVD player along with blu-ray player. So that’s way when we need to use DVD disc, we use DVD player in order to watch a movie with CC and if using blu-ray disc, we use blu-ray player using SDH.
Lemme know.

[..YouTube..] Maybe I had no enough understand your stituation so I suggest, use ROUTER to let it share.
[..YouTube..] Hi mfk1990,No because there is only one line into the apartment not two. There is only one outlet so meaning have to choose between, there won’t be a problem if I use one company for both however I use satellite with Directv and cable internet with Charter so therefore must have two separate lines so need to have two outlets.-SG

[..YouTube..] Why not just use charter cable for your tv. I have charter hd and not all of the channels are in hd yet but in time they will be.
[..YouTube..] Hey DarkAurora,Not sure if you remember the story from last year when I had issue with CC on FOX channel with Charter which then I decided to switch to Directv? No way I would ever go back to Charter after all that crap. :-DBeside, we both LOVE Directv, it’s awesome, so many channels for less price compare to Charter so can’t complain, ha ha.-SG

DirecTV – slimline ? HR-23 DVR ?
dual inputs ?
there is multi ways to get it working.
if you want dual tuners, you can ask directv to install a SWM set up, use one line for 2 tuners, can copy 2 channels.
if they will not drill, get this, use under window to the HR and free up your cable port.
there is many ways to get a directv set up.
i use directv with a WB68 (4 inputs to 8 outputs) to 3 HD boxes
I am currently settingup my system again to use SWM (one line = 2 tuners)
check http://www.dbstalk.com – in directv installation forums maybe you can post a thread and see if we can come to a solution.
My son, Micah said that you could use the subtile for cc on blue ray like you do on your DVD movies.
Hey Texan,
How it works is that the HD dish has to be set up on a roof or into the ground because it’s huge and heavy so they said. They set up the dish on the roof here in apartment which means cannot use the cord all way down from roof through sliding door because it’s way too far from other side of building.
So that means have to use the outlet that was used for cable internet, they had to unhook it to hook up with the satellite.
In order to get cable internet, have to set up second outlet, can’t share one line since both are different company, different line. It has to be one outlet for HD satellite and one outlet for cable internet unless of course if I get cable TV/cable internet through Charter but it will not happen.
It will be straighten out.. eventually so will keep you all posted.

Hi Lisa C.,
Right.. actually that’s called SDH (Subtitle for Deaf & Hard of Hearing) with Blu-ray. Blu-ray doesn’t work with CC but instead they use SDH just like subtitles. I’m not too crazy about SDH though but oh well, hopefully they will go with CC at some point, who knows.

Just so you all know what I was talking about “outlet” – I mean cable outlet that this apartment only have one like this pic:
http://homepages.ius.edu/JDRUIN/images/dvr1.jpg
So we need a second outlet to make it work but problem is will the apartment allows that?
-SG
Hi you know about DTV will start on June 12th but I wonder how affect on Closed caption and tv. I wonder It will be same or what I don’t know what look like new DTV. Well wait see on June 12th. Just wonder that all.
1 outlet, and HD DVR? call driectv tell em install a SWM
that will allow you to have TWO tuners.
now you do not have any other jacks in the apartment, not even in bedroom etc ?
Hey Texan,
This apartment only have one, unfortunately. That is the problem and I don’t think they would even let anyone to install a second one, in fact not even letting anyone to make a hole in the wall. I will know sometimes today hopefully then as soon as I find out, will let ya all know by tomorrow.
-SG
Hey Karla,
Oh yea.. DTV – it starts soon and I believe the CC situation still the same, it will work fine. There shouldn’t be anything to worry about, let’s hope so.
-SG
Wow. That seems like a violation of your rights. The apartment complex needs to take a lesson in fair accommodations and accessibility. It doesn’t seem right that you would have to go through the trouble, stress and expense of moving because they won’t do a simple thing like put in another connection. I understand they can’t do that for every apartment, but this calls for a exception to that rule. In this bad economy, they are shooting themselves in the foot to risk having an empty unit just because they won’t work with you on this. Idiots. Don’t you get tired of fighting idiots?? How do you do it, Geo? How do you stay positive and strong and manage to keep fighting obstacles without losing your charm? I hope you will find a solution quickly.
Hey Cuban!
Funny you asked how do I stay positive, that’s what I’ve been asked so many times, I guess it’s time for a good topic for me to bring up one of these days?
I have some news to tell so plan on putting up the video later on today.
Indeed, I do get tired of fighting idiots all the time but at the end, it turns out well all because of positive attitude, it helps.
-SG
[..YouTube..] We use DSL and network switches that work through the electrical wiring for the VP. Don’t have cable/direcTV, cuz watch much.
