Video About Deaf With No Captions?!

Glenn w/Deaf kids

I remember Mike Glenn well when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA before he retired in 1987. He also played for the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks.

What was inspirational to me is that he learned some ASL and he ran a basketball camp to invite Deaf kids only which didn’t cost them a dime. Because he knew a little bit of ASL, he was able to communicate with deaf kids and giving them some good tips on playing basketball.

Click here for the article. Let’s hope the camp will help to inspire more deaf kids to try out for NBA in the future!

One thing I must say that bugs me is that the video regarding the camp for deaf kids, which is posted on CNN, isn’t captioned at all.

So my question is how can there be videos with a deaf related topic that have no captions for deaf people like us to be able to watch?

You can find this video on their site: Click here

Tsk tsk, CNN.

When I saw this on CNN live, it was titled ” Mike Glenn Basketball Camp for Hearing -Impaired” which I notice is still used in the article you linked.

Now I grew up on being called Hearing-Impaired and it didn’t bother me, but I know there are some that it bothers them. So I wondered how CNN had approached that.

5 minutes, the text promptly turned from Hearing-Impaired to Hard of Hearing. I was baffled, did someone catch it and tell them to change it? I just found it interesting that they had changed it and the news reporter also changed his wording from Hearing Impaired to hard of hearing as well.
